Hello Parents of Elementary Students! This is Nurse Holly sending out an update from the health office. In the last few weeks, Jacobson Elementary has seen a large increase in Fifth Disease. This is a virus that can cause a red "slapped cheek" appearance in students. The virus usually starts with mild symptoms such as fever, upset stomach, headache, runny nose. Several days after the appearance of early symptoms, students can develop a red rash on their face. Eventually the rash may spread to arms, trunk, thighs and buttocks. Generally the rash occurs near the end of the illness and your child is no longer contagious. I have spoken with the local clinic and the county health department and both have noted that this is more prevalent this year than years past. Recommendations from them include staying home 24 hours after fevers, using Tylenol as needed for comfort, washing hands frequently, not touching your face and not sharing food/drinks The virus is spread through breathing, coughing and saliva. Mrs. Stein's 7th Grade Geography and 8th Grade US History classes visited the Belmond Museum last week! A collection of native american artifacts were on display, and the students loved seeing everything! Some top items on display: anything from BK past, the flap jacket from Vietnam, models, and more! A special thank you to Cyndy McNulty for hosting us throughout the day!

Our amazing music teacher, Mrs. Jackie Klingbeil, welcomed a very special guest: her mother, Ms. Rebecca Imsande, a music teacher from Osakis, Minnesota! 🎶 Mrs. Klingbeil and Ms. Imsande co-taught music to our students, bringing both family connection and decades of musical experience into the classroom.
