This fall, the Belmond-Klemme Board of Directors engaged a professional firm to conduct a comprehensive facilities study. Each year, school districts receive funding designated for capital improvement projects, and we sought to develop a strategic plan for allocating those resources effectively. We are fortunate to have exceptional facilities at Belmond-Klemme and an outstanding Director of Buildings and Grounds, Cory Heifner, leading our efforts. Taking a proactive approach ensures we are well-prepared and can avoid unexpected major expenses. The firm provided an extensive list of potential projects totaling $24 million, which included both necessary upgrades and aspirational initiatives. As part of the study, we requested cost estimates for projects we would pursue under ideal financial circumstances. Importantly, only $62,000 of the proposed projects were identified as critical to maintaining the quality of our facilities. The board’s goal is to use these findings to develop a fiscally responsible facilities plan that meets the needs of our district. Please note, we have no intention of raising property taxes as part of this process.
