robots

Mrs. Mennenga's Computer Science class borrowed five very interesting robots from the Central Rivers AEA. The robots are called Marty and they arrived with their own iPad that is installed with the app that is utilized to program the robots. There CS students discovered that there are several ways to get the "Martys" to move.

robots2They used the Scratch "block programming" to direct Marty to move certain ways. The students would drag blocks together to program a sequence of operations, such as walk, dance, kick, move its eyebrows, etc. They were also taught how to change parameters and make loops which ended up being very entertaining!

After the computer science class learned about the robots and how to program them to move and have different actions, they thought it would be fun to show an elementary class, specifically third grade, what the robots could do and show them how the programming worked.

The computer science students really enjoyed seeing how the younger ones got so excited about the robots. It was rewarding for the students to see the excitement, smiles and giggles!
