Dear Bronco Family,
Thank you for the warm welcome I have received in the past two months. I feel so honored to be able to be part of such an amazing group of people. Last month I shared with you the vision I have for our community - Together we make a difference. This month I would like to share my commitments to the community regarding what you will see from me to show that we are all in this together.
All Voices Valued - I will listen for understanding when someone approaches me. I will strive to stay “above the line” in difficult conversations and enter conversations with curiosity. I will be open to different perspectives and act on input.
Assume Positive Intent - I will give people the benefit of the doubt and stay calm and open-minded. I will reflect on situations before reacting. I will consider proactive solutions rather than reactive solutions and provide feedback.
No Egos - I will practice and model humility and encourage collaboration. I will acknowledge the expertise of others. I will have open conversations and be willing to compromise.
As a part of working together to make a difference, I would like to ask you to partner with the school in improving the attendance of our students. In the past we have focused on excused and unexcused absences. What we are finding is that absences, regardless of why, impact the learning of all students (even the students that are in school). Chronic absenteeism is defined as a student missing 10% or more of the school days (for any reason) - in a typical school year that would equal 18 or more absences. As a district, we had 19% of our students miss 18 or more days of school last year. Although this is better than the state average, I know we can do better if we work together! We will be contacting families when students miss 5 or more days in a quarter to see how we can support you and your family. Please know that this communication is in an effort to work together and not intended to be a reprimand.

Gracias por la cálida bienvenida que he recibido en los últimos dos meses. Me siento muy honrada de poder ser parte de un grupo de personas tan increíble. El mes pasado compartí con ustedes la visión que tengo para nuestra comunidad: juntos marcamos la diferencia. Este mes me gustaría compartir mis compromisos con la comunidad con respecto a lo que verán de mí para demostrar que estamos todos juntos en esto.
Se valoran todas las voces: escucharé para comprender cuando alguien se acerque a mí. Me esforzaré por mantenerme “por encima de la línea” en conversaciones difíciles y entablar conversaciones con curiosidad. Estaré abierto a diferentes perspectivas y actuaré según las aportaciones.
Asuma una intención positiva: le daré a la gente el beneficio de la duda y mantendré la calma y la mente abierta. Reflexionaré sobre las situaciones antes de reaccionar. Consideraré soluciones proactivas en lugar de soluciones reactivas y brindaré comentarios.
Sin egos: practicaré y modelaré la humildad y fomentaré la colaboración. Reconoceré la experiencia de los demás. Tendré conversaciones abiertas y estaré dispuesto a hacer concesiones.
Como parte de trabajar juntos para marcar la diferencia, me gustaría pedirles que se asocien con la escuela para mejorar la asistencia de nuestros estudiantes. En el pasado nos hemos centrado en las ausencias justificadas e injustificadas. Lo que estamos encontrando es que las ausencias, independientemente del motivo, impactan el aprendizaje de todos los estudiantes (incluso los estudiantes que están en la escuela). El ausentismo crónico se define como un estudiante que falta el 10% o más de los días escolares (por cualquier motivo), en un año escolar típico eso equivaldría a 18 ausencias o más. Como distrito, el año pasado el 19% de nuestros estudiantes faltaron 18 días o más a la escuela. Aunque esto es mejor que el promedio estatal, ¡sé que podemos hacerlo mejor si trabajamos juntos! Nos comunicaremos con las familias cuando los estudiantes falten 5 o más días en un trimestre para ver cómo podemos apoyarlo a usted y a su familia.
