teachers read across america

What exactly is "Read Across America" and why is it important?

Read Across America started in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA) to promote literacy in our youth.   It has grown to be a national event that occurs on or about March 2nd - which is Dr. Seuss' Birthday!    Jacobson Elementary has been celebrating Read Across America since then (Ramsay & Parker)!

Reading is the foundation of learning.   Encouraging reading at school and at home will result in a curious child.  Curiosity leads to learning!

Each day there is an activity in the library with Mrs. Duran wrapped around the theme and one of Dr. Seuss' books!

This year, Jacobson Elementary is incorporating "March Madness" into the theme and has created a 'book bracket'.

The students vote on their favorite books to move them to the next bracket level!

Even the NUTRITION STAFF gets in on the fun!
