Every Monday at 10:00 a.m. (in the morning) there will be a live Zoom session that will include all 6th grade teachers and all 6th grade students. We will go over the expectations for the week and any questions you have. After the first couple of sessions, these meetings should be rather short. There will also be a Zoom session every Friday at 10:00 a.m. (in the morning). This will be a check in at the end of the week for any questions that you have. Remember that this is new for all of us. We are going to make changes and adjustments as needed.

Reminder for Zoom:

  • We can see what is in your background.
  • Be in an area that has minimal noise and distractions.
  • All students will be muted and will need to raise their hand to be unmuted.
  • There will be a chat option to use. However, everyone will be able to see the chat and what you write.
  • All Zoom sessions and chats will be saved if you are unable to attend.

There will be two lessons a week for students to complete. The assignments will be very similar to the lessons we have in class. I will videotape myself through Screencastify teaching the warm up and launch of the lesson. Then I will go over the workshop items that you will be asked to do. The items could be: khan academy assignments, workbook pages, and/or different games. There will not be MORE work, just you won’t have the option to do the work with your peers. Some assignments, I will ask that you take pictures of your work and send them to me via email or Google Classroom. You can take pictures through the Photo Booth or a video through Screencastify. If you did not bring home your math workbook and you are unable to retrieve it from school, I will have PDF’s of the workbook page that you can download and write on through Doc Hub. I will have a How to Video for uploading those on Google Classroom. I will also be available on Wednesday’s from 1:00-3:00 live through Zoom. I will just be on there throughout those two hours so if you have questions you are able to get on and ask me. Any other questions can be asked through email. If your questions require us to go live and see each other we can definitely set that up. I do plan on having one lesson posted on Monday and the other lesson posted on Tuesday. This will help you if you have any questions to ask me on Wednesday. All assignments should be completed by the following Monday in order to not get behind. We are going to be working on Algebraic Expressions. They will be on our Iowa Assessments and I want you to get as much exposure as possible to them. Please be frequently checking ALL of your Google Classroom courses to stay up to date on what assignments, discussions, and videos you need to complete.

Parents I would like to add that you don’t have to help your kids in the way that I am teaching them. If you are more comfortable using the methods and strategies that you were taught please do that!

Science/Social Studies:

There will be one science lesson and one social studies lesson per week. I plan on still doing discussions with you so you will need to check your email and google classroom DAILY(preferably in the morning). Some of these discussions will be Tuesday’s between 1-3pm via Zoom. If we do not have a discussion on Tuesday I will still be live on Zoom to answer any questions you may have. We are going to continue our work with the solar system for science. The lessons will be more specific with certain aspects of the solar system. We will begin with the moon on Monday. As for social studies, we obviously are no longer having your Ancient Greece Test so we are going to get started with American History. Some of the information we are going over will be a review. I still plan on having just as much fun with you guys online as we did in the classroom. Trust me, you want to be a part of these discussions. PS: All the things we are going to go over you will need to know for 7th grade and high school. I do not want you to get behind for those grades because of this virus, so do the best you can with being there for discussions and assignments.

Reading/Language Arts:

Just want you to know that we are going to continue to work on perfecting our comprehension skills and our writing skills.  There are several sites that you may go to that will increase your BRAIN POWER!!  Use them if you want to be smarter than the average 6th grader!!  I will be posting to Google Classroom about specific assignments and “stuff” regarding my class work past and present.  Any questions please let me know and I will do my best to answer them as quickly as possible.

Thank you,

6th Grade Team
