Kendra Haugen teaches 5th grade at Jacobson Elementary.  She has been with Belmond-Klemme for 15 years with her first classroom located at the Ramsay Elementary building.

Mrs. Haugen graduated from Garner-Hayfield in 1992 and went to college at Northwest Missouri State and Buena Vista.  She has been married to her husband, Steve, for 16 years, and they make their home in Forest City.  He works for the water department there.  Mrs. Haugen's son lives in Des Moines and works for Wells Fargo.  He is 23 years old.

She loves to fish, go to her cabin and explore new places with her family.   Her favorite place to fish is at the Wisconsin cabin she and her husband own.  She tells us it is quiet and peaceful there.   Exploring new places is another favorite adventure Mrs. Haugen enjoys, especially along the shores of the Great Lakes.    She is a HUGE Iowa State fan, loves going to the movies, and most of all loves spending time with her son no matter what they are doing.

Mrs. Haugen has a pet turtle given to her by a former student, Kevin, who lives in her classroom during the school year.   He is quite the entertainment and students find him very interesting to watch.

Mrs. Haugen loves the relationship building opportunities she has with students and families in the Belmond-Klemme communities.  She has met so many wonderful people over the last 15 years, and loves watching students learn to love a subject like reading and language that they once thought was boring.

"Work hard, stay positive, and get up early.  It's the best part of the day"  -  George Allen, is a favorite quote of hers.  No matter how hard a day was, the next day is a new chance and success.  Start the day with a fresh slate!

Mrs. Haugen remembers her favorite 5th grade teacher, Ms. Dolder.    Ms. Dolder made her feel important, simple as that.

Jacobson Elementary is very fortunate to have a teacher such as Mrs. Haugen on our staff!
